Hospice and Palliative Care

is a col-”labor”ation of love between owners and the trained and dedicated professionals at Gentle Passings to provide a better Quality of Life for our four legged family members in their final days.

Working Together

We work alongside you and your pets primary care provider to offer caring and compassionate End of Life care for your best friend.

Personal Care Plan

We will work with you to tailor a care plan that suits your pets needs and stays within your financial budget.

Highly Qualified

Our veterinarian has taken the extra training and schooling needed to become a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarian.

What to expect when you schedule a hospice/ palliative care appointment with us.

Hospice care is a specialty not unlike oncology or orthopedics.  Dr. Jody Anderson DVM CHPV has done additional schooling and training to become a certified hospice and palliative care veterinarian.

The Comfort Care Specialist will call prior to your appointment to ask about your concerns with your pet’s health, and discuss payment options. We will retrieve records from your veterinarian so that our vet has a full picture of your pet’s health.

On the day of the appointment, the Comfort Care Specialist will call when our team is on their way.

At the appointment, the veterinarian will do a physical exam, but more importantly discuss your concerns. They may go over quality of life forms and pain scales.

After the exam, the veterinarian will go over medications, holistic options, and equipment that can improve your pets quality of life.

The Comfort Care Specialist will call periodically to check on you and your pet. If you have any concerns before you receive that call, please call or text us.

What to expect when you schedule a euthanasia with us.

The Comfort Care Specialist will call prior to your appointment to ask about after care, discuss payment options, and answer any questions you may have.

  • Private Cremation with ashes back

  • Group Cremation with no ashes back

  • Burial at home

The day of, the Comfort Care Specialist will call when our team is on their way.

We bring all the supplies needed.

We encourage you to be where it is most comfortable for you and your pet. We do not have a limit on the amount of people or children’s ages.

When we arrive, we will have you sign the proper forms and choose your aftercare options (urns, pawprints, etc.). See the Faithful Friends link to see all of their options.

In most cases your pet will first be given an injection of a slow-acting anesthetic.  This is a gentle way to help your pet begin the process of sedation before end-of-life care.  The medication is injected into the muscle, where it is slowly absorbed into the bloodstream.  This gradual absorption allows your pet to become drowsy and relaxed over several minutes, easing the anxiety and discomfort.  Most pets feel sleepy, often choosing to lay their heads down as they drift peacefully into a calm, deep sleep.  This gentle approach helps minimize stress and ensures your pet's comfort throughout the process.

After the sedation injection the comfort team will step away to give you private time with your pet.

When you are ready the veterinarian will administer the final injection. The vet will do their best to choose a route that intrudes into your space as little as possible. You are welcome to pet and cuddle your pet the whole time.

If you have chosen cremation, after the pet has passed and you have had time to say your goodbyes, the doctor and comfort care specialist will take your pet to the crematorium.

If you chose ashes back the cremains will be delivered to you in 7-10 days.

Please ask any and all questions you have.
